“Spanish Through Theatre” Workshop

Imagine your child speaking Spanish with confidence not because they have to, but because they’re having so much fun they forget they’re learning.
Through theatre, storytelling, music, movement, and creative play, children will strengthen their Spanish language skills while developing confidence, creativity, teamwork, communication, and leadership in a welcoming and joyful environment.
Led entirely in Spanish by professional theatre artists and art educators Lily Sigie and Antares Ramírez, this unique program transforms language learning into an unforgettable artistic adventure.
✨ Create a Traditional Mexican Pastorela
Throughout 11 exciting sessions, children will rehearse and perform a Pastorela, one of Mexico’s most beloved Christmas theatre traditions.
Filled with music, humour, memorable characters, and meaningful messages about kindness, hope, community, and perseverance, this family friendly production offers children the opportunity to celebrate Hispanic culture while using Spanish naturally through acting, improvisation, games, and collaborative storytelling.
Every rehearsal becomes an opportunity to build vocabulary, improve pronunciation, gain confidence speaking Spanish, and make lasting friendships.

Lily Sigie
Lily Sigie is a Mexican-Canadian performing artist and cultural developer; she holds a BA in Teaching Performing Arts and a Master’s Degree in “Development and Promotion of cultural projects.” She has over 20 years of experience in the performing arts as an actress, arts educator, theatre producer, and arts manager. In 2017, she arrived in Calgary, and by 2018, she co-founded SpanicArts (Hispanic Association of Professional Artists LTD). Since then, she has been part of different cultural projects within the artistic community in Treaty 7. In 2023, she got her first Artist Development Microgrant from Calgary Arts Development to translate her book “Development of Soft Skills through Art: ABACO Case Study,” published in 2014 and translated in 2024. She has just been mentioned as the Artist of June 2024 by ICAI. You can find more about her HERE.
Antares Ramirez
Antares Ramírez is a Mexican-Canadian actress, director, performing arts educator, and psychology graduate with more than 20 years of experience inspiring children through the arts in both Mexico, where she was born and raised, and Canada. Drawing from her multicultural background, she brings warmth, creativity, and a rich cultural perspective to every program she leads.
Driven by a lifelong passion for theatre and child development, Antares specializes in introducing young children to the magic of singing, drama, movement, and imaginative play. Her energetic, play-based approach helps children build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop a genuine love for the performing arts in an environment where they feel encouraged, valued, and free to express themselves.
Antares is one of the co-founders of ExpresARTe Theatre Club, where she has served as a board member, performer, director, producer, and stage manager. She has appeared in numerous theatre productions across Calgary and has hosted and produced large-scale cultural events, including ExpoLatino, Mexifest, Fiestaval, and Taste of Venezuela. Her extensive experience both on and off the stage brings authenticity, dynamic storytelling, and contagious enthusiasm to every class she teaches.
In addition to her artistic career, Antares has held leadership roles in arts education, including five years as a department head, where she developed innovative programming, coordinated volunteers, planned family events, and led a children’s department serving more than 200 children and families every week. Her academic background in psychology enriches her teaching by providing a deeper understanding of children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development, allowing her to create meaningful experiences that nurture the whole child.
Whether she’s leading an interactive music class, directing a theatrical performance, or helping a shy child discover the confidence to step into the spotlight, Antares is passionate about inspiring creativity, building self-confidence, and fostering a lifelong love of the arts.
For Antares, every class is more than a lesson; it’s an opportunity to spark imagination, celebrate creativity, and create memories that last a lifetime.
